Former Saturday Night Live star Kristen Wiig (Bridesmaids) became a mother in June 2020. She and her husband, Avi Rothman, welcomed twins via surrogate.
Now that the twins are two, Wiig is getting ready to film the upcoming AppleTV+ series Mrs. American Pie. It’s based on the novel Mr. and Mrs. American Pie set in the 1970s, written by Juliet McDaniel.
The protagonist of Mrs. American Pie is Palm Springs socialist Maxine Simmons (Wiig). When her husband leaves her for his young secretary, Maxine ends up “exiled in Scottsdale, Arizona.”
The former beauty queen tries to turn things around by winning the Mrs. American Pie beauty pageant. But contestants need to be married in order to win the crown.
Wiig co-produces the series with Laura Dern (Big Little Lies, Mask, Blue Velvet Wild at Heart), who also stars with Allison Janney (I, Tanya, Mom, The West Wing), Carol Burnett, and Ricky Martin, among others.
