NBA legend Allen Iverson is indisputably one of the greatest basketball players ever to walk the earth. But before he chose the roundball, Iverson was also one of the greatest high school football players anyone had seen in a long time. Yup, A.I. was all-everything as a high school quarterback in Virginia. The NBA superman is on the record as saying football was his first love. So Iverson knows football. In fact, the NBA Hall-of-Famer had no interest in basketball when his mom first dropped him off at practice and said you’re playing.
But he clearly took to hoops — and no place saw more of the beauty of Iverson’s game than Philadelphia, where as a legendary 76ers guard Iverson spent most — and the best — of his 14 NBA seasons. So Iverson must be a Philadelphia Eagles fan, right? He’s got to be. It’s Philly law. Any card-carrying 76ers superstar must be an Eagles fan…
But nope. Iverson caught some major Philly stank face from fans this week after he professed his love for — wait for it — the DALLAS COWBOYS! That is a dagger in the hearts of the Philly faithful. It’s one thing not to love the Philadelphia Eagles, but the Cowboys? Ugh.
Iverson wrote: “I loved y’all for 41 years out of the 46 years I’ve been living. I’m proud of y’all. We wouldn’t be America’s team if we weren’t the greatest.”
Responses were swift: Come on #AI u know its #BleedGreen #ByrdGang, wrote one. Another says: Damn… knowing u a cowboy fan is painful man. U still my favorite player of all time but damnnnnn. More encouraging were those trying to change Iverson’s mind, and heart: #FlyEaglesFly!!! #AIBecomeAnEaglesFan it’s only right!! Philly special!!
It’s a hard foul, as far as Philly fans are concerned. A.I. sure loved Kobe (see below), but he didn’t go and say he was a LAKERS FAN:
