Let’s start with the Los Angeles Lakers names, then the accolades, among them two former NBA MVPs. That would be Russell Westbrook and LeBron James. Now add perennial NBA All-Stars Anthony Davis, Dwight Howard, Carmelo Anthony, and Rajon Rondo. The only two players here without a championship yet are Carmelo and Russ — and they sure are hungry.
Two comments perfectly set up the narrative for this year’s Lakers, a team led by James that’s clearly just dripping with NBA All-Stars. The first comment, and the most common, is this: “another ring incoming.” And that’s easy to imagine, of course.
The second comment is maybe more interesting — or will be as the season goes on. It’s this notion: “if it was 2013, this would be scary.” Ha! But it’s not 2013, so are these Lakers as scary as their accomplishments make them seem? Only time will tell. Especially Father Time — if he’s been good to the knees and backs of these veteran stars. All shall be revealed by June!
In his 19th year, James looks to write the same old story he’s used to. A trip to the Finals with a chance to win it all. He’s done that about every other year since he’s arrived, including a title two years back in the bubble in Orlando.
