Several celebrities attended the grand opening of the new Wahlburgers in London to support movie star Mark Wahlberg in his new quest to defeat even Brexit. Prominent among the smiling celebs was Oscar-winning American actress Octavia Spencer, who was in the 2018 film Instant Family with Wahlberg. Spencer is currently promoting her latest film, Ma. The psychological thriller is produced by Jason Blum, who also produced Sarah Lawrence alum Jordan Peele‘s Oscar-winning Get Out (best screenplay) among others. In Ma, Spencer plays a woman who befriends a group of high school teenagers, has them over to hang in her basement and insists they call he Ma, among other things. Ma will be in theaters May 31.
On the same day of the Wahlburgers grand opening in London, it was announced that Wahlberg and Blum are teaming up to adapt the New York Magazine article “The Stolen Kids of Sarah Lawrence” into a TV series and/or film. Blum’s Blumhouse Productions bought the rights to the article. If made into a film, it’s been reported that Wahlberg will star as the subject of the article, Larry Ray, the father of a Sarah Lawrence student who when released from prison allegedly moved into his daughter’s dorm and manipulated several of her classmates. (Note: Blum is an alum of Vassar College.)
