Shaquille O’Neal does whatever he wants. It was true during his prime years in the NBA — ask opposing centers — and it’s true today. Shaq is also a broadcaster’s dream, adding his enormous charm and humor to the NBA on TNT studio group that already had legions of fans as the 3-man team of Charles Barkley, Kenny Smith and Ernie Johnson. And though Shaq’s pretty savvy at basketball analysis, it’s when he tells his unique stories that he really shines on the screen. And when Shaq’s stories happen to be about him doing whatever he wants, it’s TV bliss.
This weekend Shaq apologized on air to Kenny Smith for the time years ago — before he really had a relationship with Kenny — that he took Kenny’s his son out of school. Shaq’s daughter went to the same school as Kenny’s son, and when Kenny arrived at the school to pick up his son the school administrators told him the boy had gone with Shaq. What? But here’s the best thing: when Shaq returned Kenny’s son, he had gotten him a haircut! We repeat: Shaq does whatever he wants.
