NBA superstar Dwyane Wade has three NBA championships, a glamorous Hollywood marriage (his wife is actress/producer Gabrielle Union), and a reputation as one of the greatest players ever to play the game of basketball. Wade is retiring after this season — and he’s on a farewell tour as he travels the NBA circuit this season, being praised and celebrated in every city he visits. Wade has been grateful and humbled, he’s said, by the appreciation fans all around the league have shown the man known as DWade and sometimes as Flash — a nickname bestowed on him by onetime championship teammate and all-world nicknamer Shaquille O’Neal.

But Wade hasn’t stopped actually playing — despite all the accolades and ceremony, Wade is still out on the court doing his thing for the Miami Heat. While most of the news about Wade these days is about how he and his wife Gabrielle Union welcomed a “miracle baby” last fall, and how life is so good off the court, in other news, Wade can really still ball and some nights shows flashes of the old Flash. It’s a different style of basketball, he confesses in the post below. Instead of rising above the rim for thunderous dunks the way he has throughout most of his career, Wade uses his smarts, skills and incomparable footwork to perform feats of spectacular scoring from closer to the ground. Or, as Wade admits, he’s now living “life below the rim.” As in the rest of Wade’s life, this new life below the rim looks pretty good. And it’s obviously effective. More photos below.
