In the NCIS episode “Fragments”, a 50-year-old tape recording left by a murder victim is found. Gibbs (Mark Harmon) and the NCIS team try to exonerate Ray Jennings (Charlie Robinson), the Marine serving a life sentence for the crime, even though he says he did it. Gibbs’ request for exploration has been denied but that doesn’t keep him from investigating. He has a chat with Jennings’ former Marine Master Sergeant Thomas Fletcher in Vietnam, who’s now retired.
[Check out Dryer as Dave on Cheers]
Retired Marine Master Sergeant Thomas Fletcher is portrayed by Fred Dryer. He’s best known for his roles as Det. Sgt. Rick Hunter on the TV series Hunter, and as sportscaster Dave on Cheers. Fun fact: The 6’6” tall actor played college football at San Diego State before being drafted by the New York Giants in 1969. He played for the Los Angeles Rams most of his career, from 1972 to 1981, when he retired from the NFL and traveled not very far to Hollywood. NCIS airs Tuesdays at 8 pm on CBS, right before the new crime drama FBI.
