In the 90 Day Fiance: Before the 90 Days episode “Expecting the Unexpected,” Paul has a video conference with his mom looking for advice after his 21-year-old bride Karnie said she wants a divorce. Meanwhile, back in the U.S., Rachel meets with immigration lawyer Rebecca Kitson and they video conference with Jon in England. Jon tells Kitson that they decided to go for a K1 visa because “I don’t want to ask permission. I want to be able to fight for the right to be with my wife.” However, Kitson (who has reviewed Jon’s criminal record) suggests it’s much stronger to move forward with a marriage-based case, “it’s a legally stronger path.”

She recommends immigrant visa processing, which basically mean “going straight for a green card,” which piques Jon’s attention. “However, with your record,” the lawyers warns Rachel and Jon that they’re looking at three years of processing time. “You guy are really staring down the barrel of a longtime separation without being able to start your lives together. After a long pregnant pause, Jon says, “I don’t care. It’s just time. We’re going to be together.” The lawyer says “that’s the level of tenacity and commitment you’re going to need to make it through this process.” She also warns them that based on his criminal record, “a denial is always a possibility.” 90 Day Fiance: Before the 90 Days airs Sundays at 9pm on TLC.
