The premiere episode of Season 7 reveals that Nick (Jake Johnson) is about to propose to Jess (Zooey Deschanel) now that they’re back in New York after The Pepperwood Chronicle European book tour. But Nick sees an obstacle when Jess runs into her handsome ex-boyfriend Russell, who’s portrayed by movie star Dermot Mulroney. Russell appeared on Season 1 of New Girl.
