In the Empire spring premiere episode “Birds in the Cage,” while Jamal (Jussie Smollett) has a breakdown after killing Angelo DuBois (Taye Diggs), and Becky (Gabourey Sidibe) reveals to Porsha that she’s pregnant, Lucious (Terrence Howard) is still missing. When Cookie (Taraji P. Henson) finds out where Nurse Claudia (Demi Moore) is keeping Lucious, Cookie “gets bossed up to get her man,” according to Smollett (see video interview below). “It’s the classic heroic story of a king and his tower,” says Smollett. He’s referring to the king needing to be rescued by his queen. We’ve never read a classic heroic story where the queen saves the king, but it is a new day.

When Claudia comes at Cookie swinging an ax, Cookie says, “He belongs to me, bitch,” which does sound like a classic gangster movie. Empire fans can’t wait to watch Cookie go all OG and trash crazy Claudia, once and for all. Empire airs Wednesdays at 8pm on FOX.
