On the Bar Rescue episode “Weird Science,” Jon Taffer visits a bar that wants to be a successful music venue. But it’s not. The bar, which is owned by two scientists, is $500,000 in debt. During the recon segment of the episode, Taffer gets really upset when he listens to the owners talk about art shows in the office — for 15 minutes! Or as Taffer says, “I’m ready to rip my eyes out!” It’s not because Taffer doesn’t appreciate fine art but because “They’re losing thousands!” When it comes time for Taffer to bust into the bar and introduce himself, he keeps his composure, at first. When he tells the owners he just watched their 15-minute conversation about art, he refers to it as “possibly the most painful conversation I have ever watched.” The owners are quick to apologize and agree with Taffer.

When Taffer calmly brings the two owners/scientists to the quiet corner of the bar, he asks them, “Are you here to forward culture or your own retirement?” They answer, “Hopefully both.” Still feigning calmness, Taffer asks if they willing to risk culture for their retirement. The two scientists/bar owners hem and haw until one says, “Only to a certain degree.” New episodes of Bar Rescue airs Sundays at 10pm on Paramount Network.
