In the LA to Vegas episode “Two and a Half Pilots,” the two and a half pilots refer to look-a-like Captains Dave (Dylan McDermott) and his rival Captain Steve. While the two pilots have a lot in common — they’re both pilots, have mustaches, wear the same aviator sunglasses and have big egos — they are also different. Captain Dave has just one flight route (LA to Vegas) while Steve is an international pilot who’s just filling in while Captain Dave is absent (due to his arm injury). On one special flight, the pilots fight it out and it ain’t pretty. (The men are pretty, but not the fight.)
In real life, the actors also have something in common: actress Julia Roberts. While Dylan McDermott (Captain Dave) starred in Steel Magnolias with Roberts (and they were engaged in real life!), Dermot Mulroney who plays Captain Steve has been in two films with Roberts — My Best Friend’s Wedding and August: Osage County.
