For the December 9 show of Saturday Night Live, actor/writer James Franco returns as host and singer SZA makes her SNL debut. SZA (born Solana Imani Rowe) is a 27-year-old singer who was raised in Maplewood, New Jersey. She released her first EP, See.SAZ.Run, in 2012. But it was her 2017 debut studio album Ctrl (pronounced “control”) that got her on the Billboard Top 200 and made her the recipient of five Grammy Award nominations including Best New Artist. Time magazine named Ctrl best album of the year.
On Ctrl, five male artists are featured on five different songs (SZA aka Solana Rowe is co-writer on all 14 tracks). They are:
- Pharrell Williams on “Supermodel”
- Travis Scott on “Love Galore” (video below)
- Kendrick Lamar on “Doves in the Wind”
- James Fauntleroy on “Wavy (Interlude)”
- Isaiah Rashad on “Pretty Little Birds”
