In The Simpsons episode “Whistler’s Father,” while Homer discovers Maggie’s hidden talent as a whistling savant, Marge is hired by Springfield mob boss Fat Tony to decorate his brothel. The voice of Fat Tony has been provided by Joe Mantegna since 1991. In 2007, the year The Simpsons movie came out, Mantegna said Fat Tony was his longest running role.
On camera, Mantegna is known for his roles on Criminal Minds (David Rossi), and in the films Forget Paris (Andy), Searching for Bobby Fischer (Fred Waitzkin), Bugsy (George), The Godfather: Part III (Joey Zasa), and David Mamet’s House of Games (con man Mike), among many others. The Simpsons airs Sundays at 8pm on FOX.
