In the Grey’s Anatomy episode “Go Big or Go Home,” while Amelia tries to keep a secret a secret and someone from Meredith’s past shows up at the hospital, Harper Avery also arrives at Grey Sloan. Harper Avery is the surgeon that the prestigious Harper Avery Award is named after. He is the grandfather of Dr. Jackson Avery (Jesse Williams). Last time we saw Harper was in 2010 (Season 6), when he became a patient and underwent surgery. In surgery, it was discovered that he was allergic to chromic sutures. Now Harper is threatening to pull funding from his family’s foundation out of the hospital which would cause it to fold.

Harper Avery is portrayed by Chelcie Ross. He’s known for his roles on Mad Men (Connie), and in the films Basic Instinct (Captain Talcott), A Simple Plan (Carl), Primary Colors (Charlie Martin), Rudy (Dan Devine), Major League (Eddie Harris), and Hoosiers (George), among others. Grey’s Anatomy airs Thursdays at 8pm on ABC.
