Only 22 acts have made it to the semifinals of America’s Got Talent, Season 12, which begin September 5. While there are many unique acts including brother and sister rollerskating duo Billy and Emily England and forensic mentalist Colin Cloud, 13 of the 22 acts are singers. And 4 of those 13 singing acts include Golden Buzzer recipients Darci Lynn, Chase Goehring, Angelina Hale, and Mandy Harvey. So R&B singer Johnny Manuel has his work cut out for him. And he’s ready.

Johnny knows what it takes to make it. As a teenager, he was producing an album with producer Jermaine Dupri, before he was dropped. On AGT, he’s been singing covers including the well-recognized “And I Am Telling You…” song from Dreamgirls. AGT Judge Simon Cowell told Johnny if he were a Broadway producer and needed a big male voice for a show, he would hire Johnny in a minute. So Johnny is taking a big risk (as all great artists do, especially when under pressure) by performing one of his original songs on Week 1 of the AGT semifinals. America’s Got Talent airs Tuesdays and Wednesdays at 8pm on NBC.
