Doorman is a service that delivers packages ordered online during hours convenient to the customer (and to avoid packages from being stolen on doorsteps). The first city it serviced was San Francisco, in 2014. Zander Adell, the founder of Doorman (a former technical director at Pixar), pitched his business on Shark Tank in 2015. Adell accepted Robert Herjavec’s offer of a $250,000 investment in exchange for 12 percent equity. Adell went into the Tank seeking $250,000 for 10 percent. Eight months after the Shark Tank episode aired, Adell raised $3 million in seed funding which made it possible for Doorman to expand the business and offer its one-hour window delivery services in Chicago and New York. Doorman offers a la carte prices ($5/visit plus $2 a package) and monthly subscriptions from $29/month to $89/month.
