Growing Up Hip Hop is coming to the ATL, the city Bow Wow (aka Shad Moss) has called home since he was 9. He’s the star of the show as he himself is a hip hop star. The other young people featured are the offspring of hip hop stars. Some aspire to get into the business like Brandon Barnes, the son of manager Debra Antney; Zonnique Pullins, daughter of Tameka “Tiny” Harris and (step)daughter of T.I.; and Ayana Fite, daughter of DJ Hurricane of The Beastie Boys.
[Left: DJ Hurricane is heard on The Beastie Boys album Hello Nasty]
DJ Hurricane (born Wendell Timothy Fite), 52, worked with Run D.M.C. before he joined the Beastie Boys as their DJ until 1998. He has since released a few solo albums and launched his own production company, Don’t Sleep Productions. From 2008 to 2012 he was touring DJ for Faith Evans, wife of the late Notorious B.I.G. Growing Up Hip Hop Atlanta airs Thursdays at 10pm on WE.
