There are two new faces on Season 7 of The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills — former swimsuit designer Dorit Kemsley and hair salon owner Eden Sassoon. If the name Sassoon has you repeating the slogan “If You Don’t Look Good, We Don’t Look Good — Vidal Sassoon,” then you’re probably familiar with the brand. The late legendary hair stylist Vidal Sassoon opened a chain of salons and created hairstyling products in the 1970s in Los Angeles. He was known for the Bob cut — a close-cut geometric hair style worn by Mia Farrow in Rosemary’s Baby and Goldie Hawn in Cactus Flower. (Both actresses won Oscars for those roles, btw.) Vidal Sassoon also co-founded Paul Mitchell Systems with Paul Mitchell, one of his former students.
Sassoon’s life wasn’t always so glamorous. Quite the opposite. He was born in 1928 in poverty in London. When his father left the family, they were homeless. Sassoon was sent to an orphanage. You can read about his fascinating life in his autobiography, Vidal. The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills airs Tuesdays at 9pm on Bravo.
