Rolling Stone named its 50 Best Songs of 2016 and Irish folk-blues icon Van Morrison‘s “Going Down To Bangor” (below) nabbed the #50 spot. From the album Keep Me Singing, in “Bangor” Morrison “wanders down some ancient roads…to hear harmonicas in the wind and meditate on the power of Caledonia soul,” writes RS.
Morrison is joined near the bottom of this diverse tops list by his contemporary Paul Simon with “Cool Papa Bell“, which gets the #39 spot. The list includes Miranda Lambert, A Tribe Called Quest, Courtney Barnett, Lady Gaga, Britney Spears (#34) and Ariana Grande. Beyonce was #1 with “Formation.”
