Jim Loughran of Hauppauge, New York is the entrepreneur behind PolyGlide, a product that can turn any backyard in any location into a skate rink. PolyGlide is a synthetic ice rink kit that comes with a set of synthetic ice sheets/panels that snap together like a jigsaw puzzle. Your rink can be as little or as big as you wish, and you can form any shape you want with the lightweight panels. PolyGlide kits start at $275, as Loughran says about the same price you’d pay for a few private skating lessons.
Loughran will pitch PolyGuide on Shark Tank (December 9) which airs Fridays at 9pm on ABC. One of the obstacles he will face in securing an investor is the competition. There are other synthetic ice rink kits available on Amazon.
