The Dateline NBC episode ‘Vanished’ investigates the death of 26-year-old nursing student Michelle Le. She was last seen alive in a San Francisco Bay Area parking garage in May 2011. Four months later Le’s remains were found in a remote canyon. The prime suspect was Le’s former friend, Giselle Esteban. When police interrogated Esteban, they asked her to describe her dislike for Le. “I just want her to stay away from my child,” Esteban said. But Esteban’s escalated jealousy of Le, who Esteban was convinced was having an affair with the father of Esteban’s child, was revealed in text messages she sent to the child’s father, Scott Marasigan. Le “dug her own grave” and “won’t be around much longer” Esteban wrote to Marasigan. It was also revealed that Esteban was pregnant with her second child with Marasigan when Le was murdered.
Three months after the remains of Le were discovered, Esteban was found guilty of first-degree murder and was sentenced to 25 years to life in prison. Esteban gave birth to her second child in prison. The child is in the custody of Marasigan. Dateline NBC airs Fridays at 9pm on NBC.
