A decade ago David Lee lit up Madison Square Garden rebounding like Rodman and throwing down some junkified jams like some sort of freaky pale Dominique Wilkins. Of course he couldn’t remain a Knick — there used to be an unwritten rule that showing too much talent got you shipped out of NYC (ask Zach Randolph). But Lee didn’t miss it: he won a championship with the Warriors before bouncing to Boston and Dallas.
Now he’s a Spur, and if Lee has any RealDavidLee (as Twitter might say) still in him, he’s in the perfect place for an extended swan song. Sharing a frontcourt with Pau Gasol and LaMarcus Aldridge, focusing on boards and intangibles? Check. Note: Lee doesn’t arrive in San Antonio fading away, despite the years on him. In just 17.3 minutes per game with the Mavs, Lee averaged 8.5 points and 7 rebounds. Coach Popovich adds yet another high basketball IQ to his Spurs after a 67-win season.
