Kayla Mueller was the 26-year-old humanitarian worker who was taken hostage by ISIS in Syria in August 2013. She was repeatedly tortured and raped before being executed by “Jihadi John.” ABC 20/20 is airing its investigation of Mueller’s death which includes never before seen video of Mueller while held hostage and an interview with Mueller’s parents who say President Obama promised to make an anonymous donation to Mueller’s foundation. The Muellers tell 20/20 that they are still waiting for the donation, which is sparking debate on social media.

Since Obama allegedly promised an “anonymous donation”, some argue that perhaps the Muellers may have already received it. The online arguments rage on. Some say a president in office doesn’t send donations, and that Obama meant he would do so as a civilian. Other Americans predictably seized on Mueller’s statement to call Obama a liar, among other things. Then there’s the non-scolds who think the president “has a lot on his plate and he forgot.” ABC 20/20 airs Fridays at 10pm on ABC.
