On the Season 3 premiere of Flex & Shanice, “0 to 360,” while Shanice struggles to finish her comeback album with Grammy-nominated producer Mali Hunter, Shanice’s mother Crystal Wilson is busy making music too. Crystal is “reforming” her old R&B group Crystal Penni. (Penni is Crystal’s sister, Shanice’s aunt.)
Crystal was once a backup singer for Luther Vandross and Jennifer Holliday. But when she discovered Shanice’s talent, Crystal dropped her dreams as a singer to manage Shanice. Crystal and Penni left Pittsburgh and moved to Los Angeles where they started their management agency Crystal and Penni. You can hear all three Wilson ladies singing the 1994 gospel song “Searching” below. Flex & Shanice airs Saturdays at 9pm on OWN.
