ABC 20/20 will air the first American broadcast of Oscar Pistorius’ exclusive interview after he took the life of his fiancée Reeva Steenkamp. In 2014, the South African Paralympic champion was found guilty of culpable homicide and sentenced to five years in prison. In 2015, South Africa’s Supreme Court overturned the culpable homicide verdict and found Pistorius guilty of murder which means he’s facing 15 years in prison. Pistorius is currently living under house arrest. His sentencing for the murder conviction has been scheduled for July 6.
When ABC 20/20 made the announcement about the broadcast on Facebook, many fans voiced their disappointment with the programming. Kristin Brazelton wrote: “Can we have some real stories about real people that need praise and prayers? Sick of all the drama celebrity crap.” Wendy Strain-Caswell agrees, “Don’t really care what he has to say any more and watch the fake crying act he’s been pulling for years!” April Clendening Sanders chimes in: “Guess I’ll be watching the id channel.” ABC 20/20 airs Fridays at 10pm.
