Emily Keener is competing on Season 10 of The Voice. After singing “Goodbye Yellow Brick Road” for her Blind Audition, she joined Team Pharrell. She won the Battle Round against Jonathan Bach singing “Explosions” and made it through the Knockout Round singing Joni Mitchell’s “Big Yellow Taxi”. (They paved paradise, don’t you know.) For the Live Playoffs, Emily will sing the Paul Simon classic, “Still Crazy After All These Years.”
When the album (of the same title) came out in 1976, Rolling Stone said “Still Crazy After All These Years” was the best song on the album. The song has an AABA form with some unexpected harmonies that differ between the verses. Music critic James Bennighof wrote of the song’s key modulations (from G major to A major): it gives “a faint sense of slightly demented triumph to the singer’s declaration that he wouldn’t be held responsible for his potential mayhem.” Walter Everett said it [the modulations] reflected Simon’s “unpredictable emotional and mental state.” The Voice airs Mondays and Tuesdays at 8pm on NBC.
