On The Mysteries of Laura episode “The Mystery of the Morning Jog,” NYPD detective Laura Diamond (Debra Messing) is trying to find out who killed the city’s #1 sports surgeon. Whether she likes it or not, she gets some comic relief at home. Her father Leo is staying with her and the boys. In his underwear, Leo enjoys singing and stomping his foot in the kitchen while playing the harmonica. His grandsons love it. Laura, not so much.

Leo Diamond is portrayed by standup comedian and veteran actor Robert Klein. He is best known for his roles in the films Two Weeks Notice (Sandra Bullock’s father), How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days (Matthew McConaughey’s boss), and Reign Over Me with Adam Sandler. Fun tidbit about Klein: “During the finale of The Tonight Show with Jay Leno in February 2014, Billy Crystal reminded Jay Leno that when Leno was an aspiring comedian, the only decoration in Leno’s apartment was a poster of Klein. Mysteries of Laura airs Wednesdays at 8pm on NBC.
