Joseph Kahn directs Taylor Swift in “Out of the Woods” — and the making of the elaborate video produced its own “behind the scenes” video. “The making of” is four minutes of classic friendly relatable Taylor chatter mixed with beautiful New Zealand landscapes. It’s hardly a surprise that the biggest artist in the world would choose New Zealand to come out of the woods. First of all when you come out of the woods in New Zealand you’re on, as Taylor says, the most beautiful beach she’s ever been on: “It’s so surreal.”
And the other reason New Zealand is a natural choice is because of the Peter Jackson and the Lord of the Rings series of films. New Zealand recreated itself as one of the world movie capitals with the simultaneous filming of all three movies in the first Lord of the Rings trilogy. Tourism in New Zealand ever since has leaned heavily on the movie’s history. So Taylor follows in the footsteps of Frodo and Bilbo Baggins, Gandalf and Gollum.
