If you’re in charge of drawing visitors to your area, there are many interesting ways to do it. You can build a glass bridge hundreds of feet in the air because terrifying tourists is hilarious. You can open the world’s longest continuous coastal driving route, and get the world’s most famous astronaut to shill it. Spectacular scenery and lovely locals will only get you so far, however. But a fountain made of beer? Well, that’s genius. Because let’s face it, after traipsing around looking at historical sites all day, most tourists really only want one thing: booze.
A small town in Slovenia called Zalec is in the heart of the country’s hops region. The town is hoping to capitalize on its fame for beer by building a fountain which will flow with delicious beer, which visitors can buy in a special commemorative mug. While some townspeople think that Zalec should be spending money in other ways, the fountain is expected to be a boost to the local economy. Peter Griffin would approve.
