Johnny Manziel is having a tough time. When Ryan Leaf says looking at you is like looking in the mirror, it’s time to re-evaluate your situation. But “Johnny Football” still has big fans in high places — and one of his biggest just ascended to an even higher place. That’s Von Miller, MVP of Super Bowl 50.
Miller took time out of his own moment in the Super Bowl spotlight to reach out to Manziel with some inspirational words of encouragement. Expressing his love and calling Manziel “fam” (that’s Texas A&M family), Miller told Manziel what’s possible. And gave him instructions — a simple game plan — on how to get back: “Grind, get back to Johnny all the ags know and love, Grind bro, 2yrs ago they counted me out, 2yrs frm now you can do the same!!” Grind is a purposefully chosen word. It puts the pressure squarely on the person who needs to do the grinding. Grinding is hard work, it’s getting in the trenches and digging out. Miller isn’t giving Manziel a pass; he’s giving him a plan.
