The Oscar snub for Straight Outta Compton rankled a lot of people who see the slight as just another example of endemic racism in the Academy of Motion Pictures Arts and Sciences. (For the second straight year, no black actor or actress was nominated for an Oscar despite some outstanding performances.) You know who isn’t mad though? That would be Straight Outta Compton producer Ice Cube, who’s satisfied with the $200-plus million the film earned at the box office. He didn’t expect much from the Oscars anyway and besides, he’s busy promoting his new movie, Ride Along 2.
Ride Along 2, it’s safe to say, will not win its stars Ice Cube, Kevin Hart, Ken Jeong, Olivia Munn, Tika Sumpter, Bruce McGill or Benjamin Bratt accolades from the Academy — even if Hollywood’s elite somehow become colorblind over the next 12 months. But the action comedy, for which Ice Cube also served as producer, will take its probable Oscar snub with pleasure. (Note: Ride Along 2‘s Trailer was attached to showings of Straight Outta Compton in theaters this summer.) Ride Along 2 may not garner any Oscar gold, but it’s expected to knock Star Wars out of the top spot at the box office, the first new #1 since Star Wars premiered. Ice Cube won’t mind if Oscar just leaves him alone.
