Lindsey Laurain of Parker, Colorado is the inventor of The Happy Mat, a food-grade silicon placemat with a built-in bowl or plate that suctions to any hard surface. It eliminates the problem of babies and toddlers throwing (accidentally or not) plates or bowls from the high chair or table. The Happy Mat, whch is dishwasher and microwave safe btw, is the signature product of Laurain’s company ezpz. She started selling Happy Mats in February 2015 and has seen great sales success on websites including Amazon. (They’ve already hit the $1 million mark, see link below.) Now Laurain is working to expand the ezpz line of products to include a mini mat (coming in February for $20), a cup, and a food art book.

Laurain is going to pitch her business on Shark Tank on January 8 at 9pm on ABC. Her biggest obstacle will be her “huge valuation,” which will cause some of the Sharks to wonder if she’s genuine about her offer and/or capable of running a larger company. Note: Laurain isn’t new to corporate America. Before becoming a momtrepreneur, she got was Director of Operations at the insurance company Humana, and Operations Manager at Pfizer, one of the largest pharmaceutical companies on the planet. Oh, and she earned her MBA at Arizona State University’s W.P. Carey School of Business.
