Hideo Kojima is the 52-year-old Japanese video game creator/director responsible for the Metal Gear series, Snatcher, Policenauts, and Zone of the Enders. He launched Kojima Productions as a subsidiary of Konami in 2005. Ten years later, the studio (and Hideo Kojima) officially severed ties from Konami. Kojima is now an independent studio which is developing a new franchise with Sony for PlayStation 4.
Sony Computer Entertainment CEO Andrew House and Kojima released a joint announcement via YouTube. Some fans are psyched. Some suspicious. PlebNC was one of the first to leave a celebratory note: “Sony and Hideo Kojima are giving Konami the biggest finger possible.” Others worry about Kojima jumping into another bad relationship. As Stan Claas wrote snidely, “Master has given Kojima a sock. Master has presented Kojima with clothes. Kojima is free!”
