The Soup — the celebrity-skewering E! show that taught millions of Twitter users how to land the snark shot — comes to an end after 22 years. For the last dozen of those, The Soup has had a huge advantage over your average would-be comic shouters on Twitter, who struggle to funnel their outrage into just 140 characters. The Soup needed only one character: the uniquely charming, perfectly passive-aggressive, deviously deliberate Joel McHale, who could say anything, it seemed, because of his joy in saying it. No one did “I’m just the messenger ” better than Joel McHale.
Probably even better known these days as one of the stars of Community, McHale simply commands the screen — he’s got that rare kinetic energy you can sense even when he’s still. The stand-and-deliver routine he gives on The Soup is maybe the best example of this skill on television. Catch it one last time on Friday night at 10pm on E!.
The final @TheSoup will feature @EricIdle @donald_faison @RobRiggle @mradamscott @NathanFillion @wendimclendonco @GillianJacobs + more!…
