In the TV series Supergirl, Supergirl aka Kara (Melissa Benoist) is forced to fight her mother’s twin sister Astra — whom Kara thought was dead. Astra isn’t a moderate villain, Astra is “the leader of all the villains” and she’s unpacking all her emotional baggage regarding her sister on her sister’s goody-goody daughter.

Astra is portrayed by Laura Benanti. She’s best known for her roles on Nashville as Sadie Stone, The Good Wife as Renata Ellard, Nurse Jackie as Mia, Law & Order: Special Victims Unit as Maria Grazie, Royal Pains (Shelby Shackelford), and the short-lived The Playboy Club as Carol-Lynne Cunningham. The Tony Award-winning singer and actress also portrayed Elsa Schrader in NBC’s The Sound of Music Live with Carrie Underwood. Now if only Astra would sing! Supergirl airs Mondays at 8pm on CBS.
