Katina Powell levels a host of explosive charges against the University of Louisville basketball program in her book Breaking Cardinal Rules: Basketball and the Escort Queen. The 42-year-old Powell says, among other things, that the Cardinals recruiting operation routinely paid for strippers to perform for players and recruits — and that the acts purchased didn’t stop with dancing. A follow-up investigation by ESPN allegedly found corroborative testimony by former players and recruits, who all said Powell’s details comport with their memories of the salacious scene on the Louisville campus.
One of the most extraordinary revelations in Powell’s expose is the charge — as yet unsubstantiated — that a former Louisville assistant coach not only paid for recruits to have sex with escorts — but that the coach also paid for sex had by the recruits’ guardians. Guardian is defined by the dictionary as “a defender, protector, or keeper.” They must use very different dictionaries at Louisville.
