Knicks forward Derrick Williams draws attention to himself. He can’t help it. He’s got short blonde dreadlocks and stands 6’8″ tall. He was the second overall pick in 2011 — but never really worked out. Phil Jackson scooped him up for steal money (potentially) at around $10 million for two years. Now he’s starting to draw the attention of Knicks fans, too. Wiliams has led the Knicks in scoring for two straight preseason games.
The question is what will happen when Williams starts drawing the attention of defenders — he was decidedly open on many of his attempts. Then again, you’re supposed to leave Williams open for 3-pointers (he’s struggled), but not so far this year — he’s knocking them down. If Williams adds that critical longball element to the way he runs the floor — he scored and dished off the fast break like a mini-Magic Johnson against the Sixers — Derrick Williams could be a big piece of the Knicks puzzle.
