So much for the experts. There is no doubt someone out there claiming to have predicted that together Drew Brees, Eli Manning, Andrew Luck and Russell Wilson would all be winless headed into Week 3 of the 2015 NFL season. But when you find that wise prognosticator, please mention that his pants are on fire.
[Seattle Seahawks: Pete Carroll IQ Quiz]
It’s helpful — at least for Seattle fans — to remember that Wilson’s Seahawks lost three out of their first six games last season — and still ended up in the Super Bowl. Luck’s Indianapolis Colts started out 0-2 last year also, matching this year’s record — though Luck’s expectations were higher this time around. (Or maybe only just as high?) The Saints went a meager 2-4 out of the gate last year — and Drew Brees’ team never really recovered, even though the quarterback made the Pro Bowl. And the Giants are on familiar ground also: Eli Manning’s Big Blue went 0-2 before getting a win last year against the Texans. The Giants later lost seven straight. Do big names win football games? As the coaches know, it’s big plays, not big names.
