The end of this summer may look like no other: you may be about to see holograms projected everywhere. Ever since the giant Tupac hologram was projected larger-than-life at Coachella in 2012, interest in holograms has skyrocketed. Back then media did articles on how the technology worked– spotlighting the high-tech company that created the Tupac hologram, Digital Domain.
Three years later the hologram has followed every other technology on that well-worn path from experts-only to amateurs-welcome. Look no further than blogger Mrwhosetheboss, whose post “Turn your Smartphone into a 3D Hologram” went immediately viral, racking up seven-and-a-half million views since August 1. Besides some difficulty reported by those who had trouble cutting the plastic necessary, this hologram solution won praise from millions of users. The 3-D hologram isn’t just for pros — or for Tupac — anymore. Everything you need is somewhere in your house already.
