Last Comic Standing is back on NBC for a ninth season. 100 standup comedians have been invited to perform before judges Roseanne Barr, SNL alum Norm Macdonald, and In Living Color genius Keenen Ivory Wayans. The only one you might not recognize right away is Anthony Jeselnik. He’s replacing former host JB Smoove.
Jeselnik, the 36-year-old comedian from Pittsburgh, is best known for his dark comedy. He likes to throw around non-sequiturs, biting insults and “has a stage persona that frequently takes a moral stance.” Jeselnik broke into the TV biz behind the scenes as a writer for Late Night with Jimmy Fallon. Since releasing his debut album Shakespeare in 2010, he started writing for the Comedy Central Roasts and then was promoted to performing on-camera at the roasts of Donald Trump, Charlie Sheen, and LCS judge Roseanne Barr. Last Comic Standing airs Wednesdays at 9pm on NBC.
