Gary Telfer was a successful pilot in Reno, Nevada. When he retired in 2011, he sunk his savings into a bar aptly called Murphy’s Law. At the time he was dating a woman named Maria. Although she didn’t invest a dime into the bar, he made her a partner. Gary owns 40%, Maris owns 40% and bartender Nellie (who borrowed $25K from his mother to invest) owns 20%.
The bar was popular at first but then Maria broke up with Gary. Gary had a hard time dealing with the breakup. Probably because Maria never physically left! She’s at the bar almost every night drinking with Gary as Gary continues to support her financially. Yes, Gary is a dope. But he did make a smart move recently. He called Jon Taffer of Bar Rescue who just might be able to save Murphy’s Law from closing. Bar Rescue airs Sundays at 9pm on Spike.
