Serena Williams, after surviving scares in earlier matches, made the 17-seed Sara Errani look like the 17-seed in the French Open quarterfinals today. Williams, the World No. 1, beat Errani 6-1, 6-3.
Williams took just an hour and six minutes to complete the dominant performance. She’ll play surprise contender Timea Bacsinszky or (also a suprise) Alison Van Uytvanck in the semifinal. No. 2 seed Maria Sharapova was ousted by Lucie Safarova, the big hitting Czech who also achieved the semifinal where she’ll play Ana Ivanovic.
