USA Today says “Emmy voters, take note” of Jane The Virgin, calling Gina Rodriguez one of TV’s brightest new stars and commending the series for “taking a character who could have been a shallow buffoon and giving him depth.” That’s something you very rarely see on TV, where going with the buffoon is almost always an easier way to pay the bills.
The character who avoids buffoonery (depending on how you define it!) actually makes Jane The Virgin go — there’s no one like Rogelio De La Vega on television. Or, as it turns out, on Twitter. On TV, actor Jaime Camil delivers a consistently complex hilarious three-dimensional man every week — and the writers are really saying things with Jane and Rogelio. (You could learn more about immigration reform on Jane the Virgin than at a presidential debate — and get more laughs, too.) But all seriousness is cast utterly aside on Rogelio De La Vega’s Twitter feed, where he tells people to tune in to “fall in love with him all over again.” Why? Maybe because, as he wrote last week: “My eyes are so piercing today!!!” Or it could be another body part, you never know with fake Rogelio.
Loving my butt today!!!
