Bob Dylan will be the final musical guest on David Letterman’s Late Show, no doubt filling in for the late Warren Zevon — Dave’s favorite — who gave Letterman’s show some of its finer moments. Dylan last performed on Letterman more than 20 years ago. The show will air Tuesday night. Bill Murray will also appear. Murray did a beautiful version of Dylan’s “Shelter From the Storm” in St. Vincent, his recent film. They may sing together.
Letterman’s last show, on Wednesday, has no announced musical guest. Bob Dylan’s former backing band, known simply as The Band, called its last concert tour The Last Waltz back in 1976. That goodbye became an iconic film by Martin Scorcese. Bob Dylan knows how to say au revoir with the best of them — he’s been doing it for ages.
