Country music singer Meghan Linsey has already had her big break. In 2009, she and her ex-fiance Joshua Scott Jones – known together as Steel Magnolia – won CMT’s “Can You Duet?” and got picked up by American Idol mentor Scott Borchetta’s label Big Machine Records. But the duo broke up – personally and professionally – following Jones’ struggle with substance abuse.
Linsey knows many of the fans and viewers of The Voice think she has an unfair advantage due to her past. But she explains that she also has more to lose. “It would have been a bigger deal for (me not to get chosen) than if I had just come out of nowhere,” she said. Plus, she’s had to struggle with a fan base that turned on her. When Steel Magnolia broke up, she said many blamed her for the break up. The Voice airs Mondays and Tuesdays at 8pm on NBC.
