A new survey finds that some McDonald’s franchisees are regretting their situation, as the McDonald’s brand–and its sales–continues to languish. Corporate answers to fierce challenges from the likes of Chick-fil-A and Chipotle–answers which the franchisees are forced to implement–haven’t steadied the ship. And the McDonald’s investment simply isn’t paying back the way it used to for angry franchisees. Meanwhile, the Burger King next door is on a roll. (Not a sesame seed bun.)
McDonald’s franchisees have a right to get testy. A McDonald’s franchise start-up costs “range from $955,708 to $2,290,146” according to the company. There’s also an initial franchise fee of $45,000, plus corporate collects a service fee of 4.0 % of monthly sales. And the franchisee is locked in for 20 years.
