Keiji Inafune’s Mighty No. 9 — the much anticipated quasi follow-up to Mega Man — won’t drop this month as originally intended. And that’s good news, according to Inafune. His company, Comcept, has partnered with Deep Silver, a publisher, to release a boxed version for Xbox One, Wii U, PS4 and PC. The deal also means “extra content,” according to Inafune. Comcept introduced the news with the greeting: “Big news, Mighties.” Yes it is.
The only drawback is that the deal–and the additional content–push back the launch date to September. So the tagline prelaunch might be No. 9 in 9. Inafune was at Capcom when the company canceled Mega Man Legends 3. He left but maintained the desire to push the Mega Man franchise forward. That desire spurred Mighty No. 9, which raised almost $4 million on Kickstarter a year-and-a-half ago. For the Mighties, September can’t come soon enough.
