Ashley Fallis was the 28-year-old wife of a Weld County sheriff’s deputy Tom Fallis. They lived with their three children in Evans, Colorado. On New Year’s Eve 2011, they invited family over for a party. Later in the evening, Ashley’s parents said Tom snapped, which wasn’t unusual. He started cursing loudly and then went into his bedroom and never came out. Ashley’s parents left. That was the last time they saw Ashley. That evening, Tom called 911 and said his wife had shot herself in the head with her own gun. When Tom’s friends–other sheriff’s deputies–responded to the call, they ruled Ashley’s death a suicide. Colorado authorities are now conducting an internal investigation which so far has revealed that one of the deputy sheriffs that night overheard Tom Fallis confessing to killing Ashley.
In November 2014, prosecutors reopened the case. Tom Fallis was arrested at his home in Bloomington, Indiana, where he was living with their three children. Fallis posted bail in December. 48 Hours will investigate the death of Ashley on Saturday, April 11 at 10pm on CBS.
