OKC Thunder guard Russell Westbrook has been on a tear like the NBA has rarely seen. Westbrook’s fourth straight triple-double–even if it came against the lowly 76ers–puts him in some rarefied company. Westbrook’s gaudy stat line reads 49 points, 16 rebounds and 10 assists. Only Hakeem Olajuwon with 46, 19 and 8 in 1996 and Vince Carter with 46, 16 and 10 in 2007 are comparable, according to hoops scribe Dan Feldman.
Even more remarkable is the four game streak. That hasn’t been done since Michael Jordan had SEVEN consecutive triple doubles in 1989. (Jordan had a total of 15 triple-doubles that year.) To put Jordan’s accomplishment in perspective, Westbrook will need to score at least 30 points, grab 30 rebounds and dish out 30 assists over his next three games just to tie Michael Jordan. The Thunder take on the Bulls tonight at 8pm on TNT.
